Some of Britain’s top cyclists will be racing for national glory this week as the 2026 Lloyds National Road Championships return to Ceredigion, Wales, from 25 to 28 June.

Over four days of competition, riders will battle for the right to wear the famous British champion’s jersey, one of the most recognisable prizes in British cycling. Around ten national titles will be decided across elite and under-23 categories.

The championships begin with the time trials in Lampeter on Thursday 25 June, where riders race individually against the clock and the fastest overall time wins. On Friday evening, attention moves to Aberystwyth for the circuit races, featuring repeated laps around a short town-centre course packed with twists and fast corners. The weekend concludes on Sunday with the road races, the sport’s traditional format, where riders compete over distances of up to 187 km before finishing along the Aberystwyth seafront.

A strong field is expected, featuring riders including Ethan Hayter, Zoe Bäckstedt, Anna Henderson, Fred Wright, Ben Turner and Sam Watson, alongside many of Britain’s rising stars. Defending champions will also be aiming to retain their titles.

The championships are returning to Wales for a second consecutive year as part of a three-year agreement between British Cycling and the Welsh Government, helping establish Wales as one of the UK’s leading destinations for major cycling events. Wales is also set to host part of the 2027 Tour de France Grand Départ, further strengthening its reputation on the international cycling stage.

Whether you’re a dedicated cycling fan or simply enjoy watching elite sport, the next few days promise plenty of exciting racing and a chance to see Britain’s best riders competing for one of the most prestigious jerseys in domestic cycling.

With Britain’s best riders in action, it also got us wondering:
  • Do you follow professional cycling?
  • Which cycling event do you enjoy watching most?
  • Could Britain produce another Tour de France winner in the future?
  • Would you attend a major cycling event if it came to your area?
